This fundamental difference in audience is why we support two communities, r/Apple and r/AppleHelp.If people wanted continued support, they upgraded once the new version came out. People are going to start buying phones less frequently now that they've basically become extremely expensive with fewer compelling changes year to year.Developers survived for decades on single purchases with yearly (or whatever) re-releases that were priced appropriately. New hardware gets released yearly but in the iOS world screen sizes tend to be fairly predictable - different story on Android but subscriptions haven't proliferated there (yet). It really isn't that different - the same things you've listed were going on in the 90s and 2000s (except screen sizes on desktops). Now i have only 1 pencil and have to calibrate each time i need a different one.The 90s weren't a cakewalk for developers either with the rapid advancement of tech, so I don't buy this theory either. The nominal fee of $1/mth (so $12/year?) likely won't sustain devs, and anything more expensive is likely to be unpalatable to users. People will only sub to so much before they give up.
